Eligibility and Enrollment

Who Is Eligible

You may participate in the Plan if:

  • You are an Eligible Employee. To be an “Eligible Employee” you must be an employee of the Company (that is, the Company withholds employment and other taxes from your wages under Section 3401 of the Internal Revenue Code). An “Eligible Employee” must also not be in one of the groups listed under Individuals Not Eligible; and
  • You meet the following requirements:
    • For purposes of making before-tax, Roth and after-tax contributions, and for purposes of receiving employer matching contributions and non-elective employer contributions, you may begin participating as soon as practicable after you have completed the enrollment process or have been automatically enrolled.
    • For purposes of receiving profit sharing contributions, you may begin participating as soon as practicable after you have met the following age and service requirements:
      • You are at least 21 years old;
      • You complete at least one year of Continuous Service; and
      • If you are a Non-Guild Eligible Employee, your date of hire (or your most recent date of rehire) with the Company was prior to November 1, 2021.*
      • If you are a Guild-Represented Eligible Employee who satisfies the age and Continuous Service requirements on or before December 31, 2023, you will begin receiving profit sharing contributions regardless of your date of hire and all of your Hours of Service will be counted towards those contributions. Guild-Represented Eligible Employees hired on or after January 1, 2024 are not eligible for profit sharing contributions.
    • You are also eligible to participate in the Plan to make deferral contributions if you are a “long-term part-time” employee, which, beginning in 2025, means you worked 500 – 999 hours of service every 12-month eligibility period over two consecutive years. Your 12-month eligibility period begins on your date of hire and ends on your hire date anniversary. If you are a long-term part-time employee, you are not eligible to receive employer matching contributions, profit sharing contributions, or employer non-elective contributions. You may enter the Plan earlier in certain circumstances if you are no longer a “long-term part-time” employee.

* Important Note for Acquired Employees: If you became a Non-Guild Eligible Employee through an acquisition that was on or after November 1, 2021, you are not eligible for profit-sharing contributions.

* Important Note for Transferred Employees: If you are a Non-Guild Eligible Employee (1) whose date of hire or most recent date of rehire prior to November 1, 2021 was with S&P Global or another Participating Employer that participated in the Plan prior to November 1, 2021, and (2) you transferred employment to a Participating Employer that was acquired by the Company on or after November 1, 2021, you will continue to receive profit-sharing contributions, if any, after the date of such transfer of employment.

* If you are an Eligible Employee who is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between Standard & Poor’s Financial Services LLC and the NewsGuild of New York, Local 3001, you are a “Guild-Represented Eligible Employee”. If you are an Eligible Employee who is not a Guild-Represented Eligible Employee, you are a “Non-Guild Eligible Employee.”
